Carnegie Mellon University is sending a rover built by students to the moon. Called “Iris”, this tiny rover is the size of a shoebox and weighs only 2kg. It is built from carbon fiber and will actually be the first American robot on the moon. The payload is being sent by commercial company United Launch Alliance, and a launch date is scheduled on May 4th (Star Wars day, no less).
