As long as I can remember, Penang’s annual state fair (Pesta Pulau Pinang) took place at the end of the year in Sungai Nibong, and I think I’ve only been there three or four times despite living here for most of my life. This year marks the second last time it will be held in the fair grounds on the island, before it is moved off to the mainland and this site is repurposed for a rail transit station. It’s a bit sad really, even though I didn’t really go, I recall the last time I went about 10 years ago where I finally got on one of the rides. It’s lost a bit of luster nowadays, and though I didn’t go this year, or perhaps ever again, I hope it does well wherever it will be next.
