As a lifelong Star Trek fan and an honorary Bostonian, I have to give a shout out to the city of Boston for honoring the late Leonard Nimoy on his birthday. As one of his final acts as mayor before joining Joe Biden’s cabinet as Labor Secretary, Marty Walsh wrote, “I encourage all Bostonians to recognize Leonard Nimoy’s commitment and dedication to the Arts and the lasting impact that he has left on the community.”
I had the privilege of seeing Leonard Nimoy speak in person when he got his honorary degree from Boston University where I was attending in 2012. He spoke of identity and of immigrants, and of being an outsider. I still rewatch his speech from time to time.
Happy Leonard Nimoy Day, city of Boston. Mr. Nimoy was, and always will be, our friend.
